Becoming a teacher in midstream

This is a lengthy account of the challenges faced by a career-changer. Why would anyone with a successful career want to go into teaching?

I understand the sentiment. I've served students for 13 years. While the responsibilities (and workload) have increased dramatically, (as have my class-sizes) my compensation continues to be eroded by inflation.

Worse, in many communities, teachers no longer seem to be considered the professionals they once were.

Things sure have changed in 13 years.
